[I was there, sort of] BIOLA BEATS WEST COAST BAPTIST, ALLOWING ONLY 8 POINTS, 1st HALF

I went to an event I'm Brea planning on catching the 2nd half of the BB game, arrived early at BIOLA & decided to go to the library for a while 1st. At the library, however, I was told only students, faculty, & alumni were allowed. So I asked if I could go to the adjoining coffee shop. The Latino (?) guy said yes. By the way, are there any white students here anymore? I didn't see many. So I sat in the coffee shop for a while when suddenly a Latino security guard arrived ask me what I was doing asked me if I was faculty blah blah blah obviously the guy guarding the library gate had called him so I repeated everything that I just transpired I asked to speak to his supervisor I said I was going to the basketball game at Halftime blah blah blah supervisor Mendoza repeated something about this being a private property blah blah blah I told him that I had Christian College connections and that usually had Christian colleges there's a reciprocal relationship people allow that I mentioned Calvin College and Fuller Seminary he tried to be nice but you could kind of tell that they were acting like this was an exclusive place I told him I'd come to conferences here and things like that and usually during breaks come to the coffee shop or cafeteria and it's not a big deal I felt like I was being harassed blah blah blah we kept talking and I realized this isn't going anywhere. he tried to tell me I could go to the basketball game but by that time I was demoralized by the treatment or mistreatment, and said well I'll just leave then ,& walked out . I didn't go to the basketball game. Were they "just doing their job" or was I being given the "white boy" treatment by 3 Latino guards & 1 Latino library monitor. And does BIOLA really need so much security ? I hope BIOLA hasn't sacrificed being Christian for being exclusive. At Fuller anybody can use the library, also at CALVIN college. As long as you're not causing trouble.

Re MEASURE D [subdividing city] "City of Bellflower - Election / Voting INFORMATION"

Basically if I'm reading this correctly by subdividing the city basically turn it into five mini bell flowers with each subdivision being sort of a Barrio of some sort and I don't think that's true to the spirit of the entire city. BELLFLOWER is 1 city, not 5,...keep it united as one.

She ,& her sister Serena, actually grew up in Compton California which is actually quite close to Bellflower almost adjacent to Bellflower although a little bit different socio-economically,but not so much, so I think it's fair to call her a Bellflower native just like if she was from Downey or Artesia or Cerritos ie the greater ABC area

"Pool priest" At St Bernard Bellflower [ive seen him at other parishes incl St Timothy, and...

and sometimes he seems to be "trying" to act authoritatively...or trying to establish "command" but doesn't seem to really have "it" . I don't feel comfortable with him. He's like a substitute teacher. He never stays long enough to become established & comfortable and gain real credibility. Why can't he be a regular priest at a parish? Let us pray for this priest and whatever his situation may be...give him what he needs to become a "real priest" and trust in God with all his heart, mind, soul, and strength.

4/8/16 REMEMBERING PHIL TEMPLEMAN (bellflower, bethany crc, valley Christian, et al)

...when our family moved to california from michigan in 1984  i was a senior in high school ...actually it was the summer between my junior and senior  year. I started practicing with the valley Christian football team planning on staying for my senior year. We also started attending Bethany CRC where my grandfather was a retired pastor (he came to bellflower in 1936 and co-founded Valley Christian Schools and pastored 1st CRC in bellflower...later returned and retired in bellflower). The templeman family was very nice to me and their son Kirk was my same age and also played football. At the time, their dad owned a radiator repair service on firestone ave in downey ( advanced radiator if i recall correctly) . 

They invited me to work for them, along with Kirk and Phil (& I think Jim Tanis worked there too for a while)  to make a few bucks and something to do to get to know the local community. I became friends with Kirk that summer and went to a few events with him and a few other valley Christian kids. 

It was a great time, great experience, but I was lonely for my friends back in Grand Rapids and decided to finish my high school career back in Michigan ...where I lived with a friend and then a relative for a year. I didn't really return to california for long-term until much later in life...but my dad stays in touch with the local valley and bethany crc community and is in touch with the templemans. I didn't see this email until a month after this funeral. Condolences to the Templemans. Thoughts & prayers to you. & thanks for the kindness during the summer of '84.
